3/12/2018 0 Comments Final reflectionAt the beginning of this class, I had little initial knowledge of photography. I always just used my phone to take pictures, and I didn't pay attention to aspects like shutter speed, ISO, aperture, etc. Having to take pictures with an actual camera every week to turn in really forced me to be more aware of all the different elements that come together when you are taking a quality picture. Now that I know more about the elements of taking a good photo, I think that it has really influenced the way I think. While I had a little bit of prior knowledge of photography, Photoshop was something I knew nothing about before this class. I had never used Photoshop on a computer before, or anything like it. I have learned a lot of useful skills throughout this trimester, many that I think I will use again in the future. My favorite Photoshop assignment we did was the tutorials one. It combined all the skills I had already learned, plus adding a few new ones. This is the first picture I turned in for a photo assignment. I don't think it was that bad, but it definitely could have been better if it was a nicer day, or if the lamp post wasn't in it. I would say the pictures I took for the Still-Life category are my least favorite. I didn't know how to manipulate the setting to make the picture interesting. This is the last picture i turned in for a photo assignment. This is one of my best, because I took the time to plan when I was taking the photo (sunset), and I considered aspects like perspective and exposure more seriously. This was the first Photoshop assignment I did, and it was pretty simple. It didn't take very much skill. This is one of the last Photoshop assignments I did, with the original on the right and the finished product on the left. This was probably my favorite tutorial that I did, because it involved the most new skills.n

3/12/2018 0 Comments Photoshop Assignment 7PortraitFor the last photoshop assignment, we took portrait style pictures using the best lighting and background we could find. We then used photoshop to create a black background and a white frame. Creating a white frame in photoshop was something I didn't know how to do previously. The most challenging part of this assignment was definitely finding good lighting within the school.
3/5/2018 0 Comments Photo Assignment 7LandscapeFor the 7th photo assignment, I chose to do landscape. I found a scenic area around my house and planned to go around the time of sunset to create a more appealing background. I shot a variety of angles and perspectives. I also made sure to focus the camera on the sky so you could see all the details of the clouds and the different colors.

Lastly, I decided to learn how to blend two photos together. I used these two pictures because they were both taken in downtown Ann Arbor. This tutorial taught me how to use the gradient black-to-white feature. It was difficult to get the blend between the two pictures to look exactly how I wanted. https://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/photo-blend/
2/27/2018 0 Comments Photo Assignment 6PortraitFor this week's photo assignment, Zoe and I went to downtown Ann Arbor and I took some portrait photos of her at a couple different locations. Some challenges of this assignment was deciding what to put in the frame and working with the lighting. My favorite picture was taken right off of State Street with Zoe sitting on an art sculpture, because I think it created the best-looking background.
2/27/2018 0 Comments Photoshop Assignment 5Multiple MeFor this week's photoshop assignment, I learned how to use the lasso and layer mask functions to create a picture with multiple versions of one subject. Some of the most difficult aspects of this assignment were making sure the background didn't change in between takes, fixing overlaps between the versions of myself, and cleaning up around the edges of each version of myself. Overall, I learned a lot of new tools from this assignment.
2/21/2018 0 Comments Photo assignment 5ANimalThis week, I decided to take pictures of my aunt's dogs. The biggest challenge of this category was getting them to stay still, but one of them was pretty sedentary so that made it easier. The photos I took looked better in black and white, so I used that feature in Photoshop. I also altered the contrast and brightness for most of them.
2/16/2018 2 Comments Photoshop assignment 4ContextIn this assignment, we used a picture from the school and photoshopped different elements in to create a new scene. I followed a The Incredibles theme and used multiple characters from that movie. The most challenging part for me was making sure all the pictures I was photoshopping in were outlined correctly before I cut them out.
2/13/2018 3 Comments Photo Assignment 4EventOver this past weekend I went to a concert and decided to use it as the subject of this photo assignment. I edited the photo and decided it definitely looked best in black and white. I cropped it slightly, and also altered the brightness and contrast. This assignment was one of the easier ones because it wasn't hard to figure out what I was going to take pictures of. There were a lot of photogenic moments.
2/13/2018 0 Comments Photoshop assignment 3PanoramicIn this assignment we took multiple photos and used Photoshop to blend them together, creating a panoramic. I thought this assignment was easy as long as I took good photos, because Photoshop was very good at creating a seamless end product. I think this is definitely a skill I will be using again.
